Botanical illustration for families continues at Gwithian

Artist Dominica Williamson talking about insects to families in a wet meadow

EPFS fellow Dominica Williamson has continued to gain funding with artist Hilary Jean Gibson to run an Art club as part of the Charity Friends of the Towans.

Dominica focuses on Botanical Illustration for families through day long workshops. She also promotes EPFS at these events and shares its archive through imagery.

Funded by Dynamic Dunescapes the art club works on the following principles:

Through en plein air drawing and painting and botanical illustration, you can learn about nature and gain a new appreciation of your surroundings and also learn about the conservation, protection and management of the Towans.

Drawing and painting, and conserving and protecting nature are also good for your health. 5 Steps to Mental Health and Wellbeing is an evidence-based framework, which has also helped to develop the art club.

Through the Art club you can:

  1. Connect with other people. Good relationships are important for your mental wellbeing
  2. Being physically active is great for your physical health and fitness
  3. Learn new skills
  4. Give to others
  5. Pay attention to the present moment (mindfulness)
